i came home yesterday morning from the prison, only to find a beetle belly-up on the driveway. his legs were still moving, albeit slowing. he was like a wind-up toy running down. later i came back out to check on him, but he was lifeless by then. even later, on my way out to somewhere with andrew, i noticed the beetle was gone. did his brothers come retrieve his remains from the battle field, give him a proper burial back home? did he find some bit of life left (tucked away for a rainy day such as this) and pull himself to shelter? or did his body reanimate as one of the living dead? certainly a bird didn't get to him...
