First John, First Chapter
There is a running theme throughout the Revelator's writings – that is, the theme of fellowship. His gospel account, from start to finish, focuses on Jesus' interaction with people and their response to him. His letter of Revelations is all about the end times, when Christ comes to reunite with his Bride (us) and take us home. And here, in his shorter letters to the brethren, he emphasizes the communion of the saints with God and with one another. This is all that matters in the end – our relationship with the Lord and how that shines through in our relationships with others. John makes it very clear here, the need for fellowship with brothers and honesty with ourselves concerning our heart condition. These are keys, you see, to growing in our relationship with the Father and the Son. And this is what we were created for, to be in relationship with God. We were never meant to be alone.
