What is it that separates believers in Christ from the rest of the world? What sets us apart from just being part of humanity? Of course, there is our faith in Christ as our Savior, but let's talk action for a moment. When we move, when we walk and talk, when we write or sing or dance or draw, when we laugh, there is a little something that makes a big difference. Love.
I could sit here and write all day about how the world has ruined the concept of love, how it has twisted it and turned it upside-down until we can't recognize the real thing anymore. It's true, this old world has warped it into a mess, but it hasn't broken it. We have real love laid out for us throughout scripture, and we can still live it out as it has been exemplified by Jesus. Verse 19 of this very passage even says, “By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us.” If ever there is a doubt of how we should be living, of how we should be loving, here is the scale. Is my heart in a place to give everything away? Everything?
This is what the world should see in us, what makes the lost raise an eyebrow. Acting upon a heart set on that kind of love, that kind of sacrifice. This is Christ working through you, to mold you and use you. It's just a matter of letting him do it.
