We have a confidence in Christ that can be found nowhere else. Some might call it hope, but I think in this case, it's more than that. John gives us a rundown of Jesus' “credentials” and the confirmation of who he is. All of this after four chapters of double-checking our relationship status with Jesus. So not only are we sure by now that we are abiding/walking in Christ, but we know we're on the winning team too! And then he goes a step further with it. “You're in good standing with the King, so ask away!” You see a friend in need of prayer? Pray for them and know that your prayer is heard. And he says we may have confidence in the Lord's sovereignty and protection. How good it is to know the Lord!
